The two cathedrals, the Anglican Sheffield Cathedral and the Roman Catholic Cathedral Church of St Marie – both originally parish churches – are important, beautiful and full of monuments, art and stories. There are other churches that offer rich educational opportunities – St Matthew’s Church, Carver Street, St Mark’s Church, Broomhill, St John’s Church, Ranmoor and the Roman Catholic Sacred Heart Church, Hillsborough. Well-preserved Nonconformist chapels include the Victoria Hall (Methodist), Cemetery Road Baptist Church, and Upper Chapel, Fulwood Old Chapel and Underbank Chapel, Stannington (all three Unitarian).
Welcoming places of non-Christian worship mark the arrival of other faiths through migrations: the Seven Hills Shul synagogue, the Madina Mosque and the Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Sikh Temple are representative. There are many others in the city where young people can learn about diverse religions and their communities.
